Container transport in Panamá
Panamanians seaports specialized in containerized cargo are seaports of Latin America with the highest performance.
The current handling capacity is 8.9 million TEUs with a quiescent current capacity of 2.3 million dollars, 65 liner services are principally engaged in transhipment operations. Transfers represent about 85% of the annual turnover of the complex.
There are two major clusters of container terminals in Panama.
The Atlantic cluster consists of Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT), Colon Container Terminal (CCT) and Christopher has a total of 16 docks, 38 cranes and 94 RTGs, while the group consisting Balboa Pacific and PSA Panama International Terminal has 8 springs, 25 quay cranes and 63 RTGs. The capacity of these five seaports for handling containers, position Panama as the number one country in Latin America in terms of performance quay cranes (63).
