Oversized cargo specialists in Cuba
We carried out the transport of the greatest oversized cargo in Cuba
Last February, our Project Cargo team, conducted the transport by ground of a 5 metre tall transformer in the municipality of Moa, Cuba for its transfer to Nuevitas in the province of Camagüey.
Our 12-axle semitrailer was at the Lidio Ramón Pérez 220 kV Thermoelectric Plant in Felton, in the Holguín province, to load the 250 MVA transformer, watched by the careful eye of those passers-by who witnessed the greatest ground transport ever move at a speed of 10 kilometres per hour. Our team moved the 178 tonne transformer and a 70 tonne truck along 400 kilometres of roads aided by a 28 metre long automated platform which distributed the weight of the transformer over its own structure.
How we transported the greatest oversized cargo in Cuba
The trip to the 220 kV substation of the 10 de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plan in Nuevitas, faced strong challenges, such as heavy rains and the need to adapt some of the route; and the ones described herein:
- The lifting of street level electrical wires and transiting through the Leyte Vidal and Antonio Maceo streets.
- The reinforcing of the Chavaleta Bridge in the city of Mayarí.
- The placement of another metal mobile bridge in the Santa Rosa Bridge on the Central Highway between Holguín and Las Tunas.
Once in Nuevitas, our oversized and heavy cargo transport team took charge of unloading the transformer, and placing it down and attaching it with its anchor bolts, by using hydraulic jacks to avoid the use of cranes inside the plant. It should be noted that the arrival of this unused transformer at the Felton thermoelectric represents an additional advancement for the energy industry in Cuba.
